Destination Greenland and The Canadian Arctic
Published on Cartography Issue 5
Concept, Photography and Direction by Luca de Santis
Cartography travelled 3,026 nautical miles aboard the Silver Cloud for a 16-day expedition cruise by Silversea in the High Arctic.A circuit sailing from the Arctic Circle region of western Greenland, to the Canadian Arctic Archipelago of Nunavut, Canada and back to the polar extremes of the far north of Greenland through the open sea of Baffin Bay
Polar bear, let’s forget what the navigable sea looks like and reach the icy desert, where you live and flourish, because that’s where we all want to go. The cold that seems intolerable to us reigns. Our planet has changed colour. Today, from space, the top of the world in the northern summer looks blue instead of white. We have created an ocean where there was once an ice sheet. It is Man’s first major achievement in reshaping the face of his planet
